Got Questions? We’re Happy to Answer

01Can I stop saving halfway?

Your savings stay committed to your library: pause and resume, or move up or down a tier. With your consent, the balance can go to the Zādut-Ṭālib Trust as ṣadaqah in your name.

02Can I withdraw as cash?

No. This is a purpose-bound commitment, not a regular savings account, and contributions are non-refundable. Every contribution goes toward your declared library.

03Who chooses the books?

You do. We help you build a balanced list for your level, propose authentic and reliable titles, and buy nothing until you approve every one.

04Why not just save and buy them myself?
  • Discipline: a signed plan keeps you on track
  • Better prices: bulk buying and direct imports
  • Curation: a library that holds together
  • Lower logistics costs: shared shipping fees

  1. 1. Key terms
  2. 2. Accept and sign
  3. 3. Your details

The key terms of the Participation Agreement, clause by clause. Please read them through; the full agreement applies.

  1. Enrolment and acceptance

Your plan (tier, target, saving period, monthly amount and due date) comes from your subscription form, and we confirm it to you in writing with the account details. Ticking the box and typing your name online is your electronic signature, with the same effect as a handwritten one under the Evidence Act 2011. The agreement starts once your plan is confirmed and your first contribution arrives; any change to your plan is agreed in writing, and email or WhatsApp counts.

  2. Your confirmations

You confirm that you are at least 18 years old, that the details you give us are true and complete, and that your contributions come from lawful sources. Please tell us if your contact or delivery details change. We may ask for proof of identity where the law requires it.

  3. Contributions

Pay your monthly amount into the dedicated account by the agreed due date, quoting your subscriber reference. Amounts are rounded to the nearest ₦100, and your last payment is adjusted so the total matches your target. You have 14 days to catch up on a missed month, and you may pay ahead. Contributions are purpose-bound: non-refundable and not withdrawable as cash. The Maktabah is not a bank, and contributions are not deposits. If things get hard, we can agree a pause or a lower tier.

  4. Savings and reporting

Your contributions go into a dedicated, documented account at The Alternative Bank, a non-interest bank. No ribā is earned or charged. We hold your savings as an amānah (trust), use them for nothing other than what the agreement states, record every naira and send you a monthly statement. Every term is agreed in advance, so there is no gharar (ambiguity).

  5. Book sourcing and delivery

We start with your goals, level and budget. When you reach your target, we send an itemised book proposal, and nothing is bought until you approve every title. No substitution is made without your consent. Titles come from trusted suppliers in Nigeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, are checked for print and condition, and are delivered to your door against a handover checklist. You then receive a full report.

  6. Service options and fees

The option depends on what is obtainable. Titles we have in stock, or can readily buy in, come under Direct Sale at a clear retail price with no separate fee. Specialised or hard-to-find titles come under Expert Procurement, with a service fee of about 10% to 15% of their purchase value, or a standard price where that suits better. You pay all logistics costs (shipping, transport and delivery), from your balance or separately, before delivery. Your book proposal shows every fee and cost before you commit.

  7. Pricing and risk

Prices are confirmed when your book proposal is prepared, not when you enrol, and any change is shown to you for approval before we buy. We take reasonable care of your books up to delivery and bear any loss caused by our negligence. Loss that happens despite that care, by the decree of Allah or events beyond our control, is shared between us, with the Maktabah bearing no more than half. After handover, the books are yours.

  8. Support Advance

Saved at least 70% of your target consistently? You may apply for an advance of up to 30% to finish sooner. It is a qarḍ ḥasan: interest-free, with no penalty, repaid within 3 months, with two verifiable referees. Each request is reviewed case by case; it is not automatic, and its terms are recorded in writing before it is made.

  9. The Zādut-Ṭālib Trust

10% of the Maktabah’s net profit from the Programme goes to the Zādut-Ṭālib Trust, which supports students of knowledge who cannot afford a library. It never comes from your savings. If you wish, you may also give a balance to the Trust as ṣadaqah in your name.

  10. Completion and stopping

The agreement ends when your books are delivered, your report is given and any advance is repaid. Any balance left over can be given to the Trust as ṣadaqah or carried forward to start a new round of saving. If you need to stop, you can pause and resume, move to a tier that matches your balance and receive books to that value, or give the balance to the Trust. There is no cash refund. If no contribution arrives for up to three months without an arrangement, we will contact you, and your balance stays saved in your name until we agree how to use it.

  11. Personal data and confidentiality

Your details are used only to run the Programme and contact you about it, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and are not shared except where needed to deliver your library or required by law. Your plan, payments and book list stay confidential, and you may ask to see or correct your data at any time.

  12. Resolving disagreements

We will first try to settle any disagreement in good faith through discussion between us, within 14 days of written notice. If that does not settle it, we will go to mediation by someone we both accept, such as a reputable scholar or an Islamic mediation body, guided by Islamic principles. Only if mediation has not resolved it within 30 days may either of us go to court.

  13. Governing law

The agreement is governed by the laws of Nigeria as they apply in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and the courts of the FCT have jurisdiction. So far as Nigerian law permits, every term is read and applied in a way that does not conflict with Islamic principles.

  14. Other terms

Neither of us is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as disruption to import or delivery channels. Notices are given in writing, by email, WhatsApp or hand delivery. If we publish a new version of the agreement, you stay on the version you accepted unless we both agree otherwise. By accepting, you confirm you have had the chance to seek independent advice.
